What is Fish Fair™ Pricing?

We've created Fish Fair™ Pricing with the goal of providing you the most value in your charter based on where you want to fish and how you want to fish.

The charter price is a Base Rate Per Hour + Actual Fuel Cost.

We currently offer Fish Fair™ Pricing on our Full Day (7 ʜʀ) Offshore fishing charters on A Live One. Of all our trips, these see the widest variation of fuel consumption. For example, high speed trolling for wahoo 60 miles offshore could easily consume 150 gallons, but a bottom fishing trip anchored up just 10 miles out might burn a mere 50 gallons or so. Both are full day trips, but as you can see, the expense variation is roughly 100 gallons, so that means a few hundred dollars depending on the pump price. It doesn't seem fair to price both trips the same just because the duration is the same, right?

Instead, we are offering variable pricing to make cost fair to every customer based on their exact trip.

If you'd like a precise budget limit for your trip, just let your captain know, and we can operate within a pre-planned agreed range. We aren't trying to "run up the bill" but rather keep it under control while maximizing your fishing opportunity. We can run efficiently at a very comfortable speed on this boat. On the other hand, if you want to get there as quickly as possible, we are glad to oblige. Some guests might choose to get there as fast as possible and fish as much as possible, while others prefer to balance cost efficiency. That's up to you.

Your captain is glad to discuss details with you in planning your ideal trip. We plan to call you in advance on all offshore reservations to make sure we have the best plan in place.

How do we measure fuel usage?

A Live One has state of the art Yamaha fuel computers that will show us exact fuel usage from the moment we leave the dock to the moment we return. There is no guesswork in knowing how much we've used.

Typical Fuel Usage Estimates:
• Short-Range Near Coastal: 25-60 gals
• Mid-Range Towers & Reefs: 60-120 gals
• Gulf Stream Towers & Ledge: 85-170 gals
• High Speed Trolling Wahoo: 120-200* gals

*While our total fuel capacity is 248 gallons, we operate with a "soft limit" of ~200 gallons usage so that we have a good margin of spare fuel for unexpected situations like strange weather.

What is the fuel price?

Fuel price will be based on the actual pump price of fuel at the Safe Harbor Skull Creek Marina dock at the time of departure. We typically have the lowest price marine fuel in the area.

Understand that we use marine fuel, which is 89 octane ethanol-free fuel sold at a dock and it's priced/taxed differently than auto gas on the street. It's usually around 30-50% higher than the fuel you put in your car. In general, South Carolina tends to have some of the lowest fuel prices nationwide, so that's a good thing.

*About Age Recommendations:

Our Age Recommendations are just that: "recommendations" — based on the captain's experience with what tends to be the best match for certain age ranges on certain trips. We do make exceptions, often, based on prior experience and expected sea conditions being the primary factors to consider. Our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable experience for everyone on board. We're glad to speak with you in depth to make sure the trip you're booking is a good match for your group.
